Best Valentines Day Gift Ever! – Gabriel Urist

February 16, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Fuck flowers… or fuck roses (I’ll take orchids)… but no seriously all I wanted for Valentines day was something from one of my favorite jewelry designers… Gabriel Urist! I’ve been a huge fan for like three years now, and of course when I saw these about a year ago I knew they were made for me… so this V-day I texted/e-mailed my boyfriend for three days straight so that he couldn’t mess this up, and in fact… he delivered! I’m the happiest little gurlie in the world because I’ll be rocking my Wu-tang earrings during fashion week this season… leaving the CC’s at home ;)

Hot New Designer Watch: ASLI FILINTA!

February 5, 2008 · 5 Comments

Since I’m all about new designers, and hot undiscovered talent here’s a great new designer for you to check out!

Born in Adana, Turkey she moved to Ankara when she was 18 to study Economics at Bikent University. She then moved to Istanbul to work in 2001. She began designing jewelry, which eventually lead to clothing and prints. Upon moving to New York City to live she developed her techniques further by attending classes at the proclaimed Parsons The New School. Now based out of New York she is designing women’s clothing and accessories.

Asli on her collection….”The oriental look of Istanbul allows each design to carry a proprietary exoticness dreaming up in the cross-cultural trends of the time in New York City. Besides the overflowing creativity and experimentation, there is receptiveness to new ideas. Some intangible elements of the time make it unique.”

Sample Sale-ing

August 27, 2007 · Leave a Comment

So yesterday was my first official ‘full day’ to get back in the New York groove… wait hold on… “I’m back! back in the New York grooove!…I’m back! back in the New York groove…!” (okay that’s it I promise) So of course what better to do on your first day back but shop til you drop! Me and my friends went Sample Sale-ing (yeah I know thats not a word) and we did a very good job! I swear sample sales are like God’s gift to women!!!… and some men.

First we went to the Intermix Sample Sale. It was the last day of the sale so everything was on mega mark-down and I mean MEGA! The deal was if you have purchased at least 3 items you get an extra 50% off your shoes, 30% off shirts and 40% off dresses off of their already crazy marked down prices. They still had a ton of stuff left. I got an Ella Moss tank that was originally $98 for only $17.40, I got a cute black Tart shirt for going out that was originally for $29.40, and two Young Fabulous and Broke jersey type dresses…originally $110, and $115 for $21.30 each.

Now the best part is the SHOES! My favorite part of every sample sale. I got a pair of gray leather Velcro strap and wood heel Chloe pumps for—wait for it—- $34 dollars! Yeah thats like a $600 dollar shoe for only $34! I was dying! I think the person ringing me up messed up a little I think it was supposed to be 50% off of $150 (which was the final mark-down price for Chloe) so they should have been $75 but, o well!!! :) Then I got this other great pair of denim, like tye up wedges by I’m ashamed to say I don’t know that were originally $198 for only $30! Then I got a $200 necklace for $20 and a $110 bangle for $9. Pics below!

After the Intermix sale we headed to the Barney’s Warehouse Sample Sale. They had a pretty good selection of clothes and some nice shoes as well. There were several things that I wanted but than I decided why not wait till the last day because then everything might be more on sale then normal, and if it’s fate I can get the Louboutin wedges and Marc Jacobs boots I wanted. My male friend made out very well at the sale and it is definitely something I would recommend for the guys to check out, they give you a great selection.

I did pick up one thing for the most adorable 2 year old cousin in the world. It’s a little bitty hoodie by ‘Blair Wearz’ and they are so cute! The closest she’ll get to Bape I guess. It was originally $108 and I got it for $20. It is sooo cute!

Question — Answer: September Sales?

August 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Question:

I’m going to be visiting New York on Sept 1. Do you think I’m going to get super bottom of the barrel stuff because of the season change ? or do you think there will still be a good deal of stuff to buy up.

Answer:

There will still be stuff on sale for sure but, I think that sales definitely tend to come to an end near the end of August. Unfortunately you may be looking at some bottom of the barrel sale merchendise. I would still assume that stores will have some sale section or rack still going. On the good side, it will probably be on mega sale, the most they plan on marking it down, so you might get better deals. You may however have to do some extra digging to find some good pieces. Definitely go down to SoHo and check the boutiques you may get lucky. I would also highly suggest searching out sample sales. If you head down to SoHo you can almost find a sample sale every time!

Here are some going on during your visit:

The Barneys Warehouse Sale is nearing its end during your visit.
Some New Yorkers do all there shopping at these sales! Get ready to push for men’s and women’s clothing, footwear, accessories, baby stuff, and housewares at 50-75 percent off.
It goes from Aug. 16 to Sept. 3. Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Sat.-Sun. 10:00a.m.-7:00p.m. It’s located at 255 W. 17th St., b/t Seventh & Eighth Aves. (212-450-8700). They replenish the merchandise daily so you could still find some good items.

This is also the time of the year for the Showroom Seven Sample Sale, it takes place from Sept. 4 to Sept. 14th. Weekdays & Saturdays 10:00am to 7:00pm. Cash, Visa, M/C and Amex. (Photo ID required for building access) Here you can get designer sportswear and accessories at wholesale & below. Brands include: A&G Cashmere, Charlotte Solnicki, Charlotte Ronson, Clarendon, Erickson Beamon, Issa, Margret Loves…, Mona & Holly, Orla Kiely, Romeo &Juliet Couture, Sharon Wauchob, Soundgirl, Tara Subkoff for Easy Spirit, Tony Cohen, Vintage Frocks, and tons more. It’s located at 498 Seventh Ave. 24th Floor (b/t. 36th and 37th) Showroom Seven

Check out dailycandy.com for updates on Sample Sales.

Also if you are unfamiliar with shopping in New York City remember that there is no sales tax on clothing and accessories under $110.00. (That’s per item) So it’s great to do tons of shopping at your regular stores like Urban Outfitters or H&M (where all items are under $110) because your not paying tax like you would at home. (You’ll also almost always find great sales at these stores) Also shopping at stores like H&M in the city is most likely different from your home town. Places like NYC and Chicago have much bigger selections! Also not all stores carry the co-designer collections but you’ll definitely find them at the H&Ms in NYC.

p.s. Check Macy’s they are bound to have some great deals!

Hope that helps, have a great time in NYC! Please leave comments on other tips and tricks you may have that might help our friend out!

Fall In Love With This Bebe Dress

August 17, 2007 · 1 Comment

So when I was flipping through this months Instyle with Gwen on the cover and I spotted a few things I loved. One being this Bebe dress below. Now all my life I never really thought much of Bebe I thought it was a cheaper brand that ran to small and tight for my taste. Lately (through Misha Barton, and Eva Longoria spokes ads) I’ve realized the brand is so much more than that, they actually have cute stuff! This rayon dress with all its beaded glory being my love of the day. We all know I love a sparkling statement…and this sure gives me one! I think it would be great for a night out in the city! It’s is also quite affortable at $150.

Loving This — Karta

August 17, 2007 · 1 Comment

I recently came across a brand that I hadn’t seen before called ‘Karta’. I don’t know if it’s just me, or its new or what. When I tried searching for information about it on the internet I got nowhere…except for some purchasing information, no official website. I first spotted the brand at Nordstrom they have the cutest dresses, tunics, jumpers, etc. with great beading and appliqué details. They’re great because it’s like clothing with the jewelry already on them! Here were some of my favorites off of Nordstrom.com.

Black Beaded Tunic Dress, also available in green. $216
